Report: PS Store’s Easy Platinum Games and Shovelware Being Banned

A new report claims that Sony is gearing up to ban PS Store easy Platinum games and shovelware, which have been plaguing the “New Releases” section and burying legitimate games. The issue was first highlighted earlier this year when ‘Press X for Trophies‘ games flooded the PS Store, causing a headache not just for players browsing the store but also for smaller developers who found themselves struggling for visibility.

Sony reportedly issued a warning letter against PS Store’s easy Platinum games

According to gaming website Dexdotexe, Sony sent out a dev letter some time this month, warning against  “spam” or “repetitive” content. The games in question are all copycat games that often even reuse the same assets. “SIE strives to ensure that customers can search and discover the full breadth of experiences on PlayStation, and that partners have a fair means of being discovered,” the letter reads. “When partners oversaturate or ‘spam’ PlayStation Store with many variants of the same type of content, it can negatively impact both the customer and partner experience.

The letter goes on to detail spam content, adding that multiple takedowns will result in suspension and eventual termination of partner contracts.

The authenticity of this letter has not yet been verified.
