The Game Awards 2022 Runtime

Here’s How Long The Game Awards 2022 Will Be

Geoff Keighley, host of the upcoming The Game Awards 2022, has revealed that the show tonight will have “a shorter runtime” at around 2.5 hours. Last year’s The Game Awards had a 30-minute pre-show (which this year’s show will still have) and then a main show that clocked in at around 3 hours. TGA 2022 is scheduled to air today, December 8, at 4:30 pm PT / 7:30 pm ET.

The Game Awards show will likely remain “shorter” from now on

In a tweet (posted above), Keighley explains that while TGA 2022 is “probably the shortest show” he’s done so far in the event’s history, it will be streamlined to have “more focused content, fewer, bigger sponsors, and some big theatrical moments.” In some tweets that follow, he shares that they’ve held back the amount of surprise presenters and performers, as well as the number of games that aren’t already announced before the show.

While he’s worried that the shorter runtime means that the show won’t garner as much viewership in terms of livestream growth, the host believes that this is the right move for the event moving forward. Some users responding to the tweet appreciate the brevity.

Some of the announcements we expect to see during The Game Awards 2022 have likely already been leaked ahead of schedule, including the announcement of the Forspoken demo, which will probably appear in the PS Store Demo Festival for the event later tonight. Just today, we’ve got leaks for Diablo 4, Final Fantasy 16, and Street Fighter 6.

Perhaps we’ll learn more about the next Hideo Kojima game, some Horizon Forbidden West DLC, and Project 007 that’s been on the radar for a few years.
