Following this week’s PS Store refresh, which included the PS Plus Extra games going live, new PS1 Classics were added. Normally, these games are only available to PS Plus Premium subscribers, but it looks like Sony has flipped the script and made them purchasable by anyone.
New PS1 Classics no longer require Premium
New PS1 Classics including Wild Arms 2, Harvest Moon: Back to Nature, and The Legend of Dragoon no longer require PS Plus Premium to play. Instead, they can be bought outright and not tied to a subscription.
The Legend of Dragoon was the first game to be spotted as purchasable. It’s available for £7.99 / €9.99 / AU $14.95. Wild Arms 2 is the same price, while Harvest Moon: Back to Nature comes in at £4.99 / €5.99 / AU $8.95.
While there isn’t yet an official statement from PlayStation or a PS Blog post detailing the changes, the fact that all three new PS1 Classic games are available for purchase does suggest that this is fully intentional and not a one-off bug or glitch.
Though many PlayStation players will be happy to see PS1 Classics become available to all users, those with a PS Plus Premium subscription are likely to feel less pleased, as one of the main reasons for subscribing to the top tier was to gain exclusive access to Classics.
