A new AAA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game is currently in development according to Paramount Global’s senior vice president for games and emerging media, Doug Rosen. The TMNT game will be based on the darker graphic novel The Last Ronin and its gameplay will be inspired by games like God of War.
TMNT: The Last Ronin will be a single-player game
The Last Ronin will be authentic to the story arc of the graphic novel, meaning it will tell the story of a lone surviving turtle after Master Splinter and the others were exterminated by the Foot Clan. The identity of the remaining turtle was not revealed immediately and it’s unknown whether this will be one of the major plot points for the upcoming game. While only one turtle will be the main character, there could be flashbacks to scenes with the other characters.
Rosen told Polygon that the TMNT game will be “a darker, more mature take” on the famous turtles that is aimed at an older audience and is inspired by games like Sony’s last two God of War titles. The studio behind the AAA third-person action RPG has not been revealed but more details on the game are expected in the coming months. However, it will be quite a while before we see the game seeing as it is a “few years off” from release.
