Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is out now, and it’s quickly become one of the most successful games in PlayStation Studios’ history.
According to a recent release from Sony, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sales make it the fastest selling PlayStation Studios game ever. The game sold more than 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours, a figure that includes pre-order sales, as well as units bundled together with the PlayStation 5 console.
Spider-Man 2 sales continue to impress
The news comes shortly after Sony announced that Spider-Man 2 had become the U.K.’s fourth biggest launch of the year in terms of physical sales. While digital sales have yet to be reported, the game seems to be a smash hit for Insomniac Games and Sony. It will likely be at or near the top of the charts when those numbers come in.
In a statement regarding the sales metric, PlayStation’s senior vice president of global marketing, sales and business operations Eric Lempel praised developer Insomniac Games.
“Insomniac Games holds itself to incredibly high standards when it comes to delivering engaging and innovative gameplay experiences,” Lempel said. “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is Insomniac Games’ third installment in the franchise for PlayStation. Built from the ground up to take advantage of the unique features of PlayStation 5, the goal was to massively build off the action, storylines, and features from the first two games.”
