Arrowhead Game Studios has revealed that Helldivers 2 sales are “blowing” through publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment‘s expectations. Sony hasn’t released an official statement celebrating the game’s launch like it does for some of its blockbusters, but Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt recons that the company is happy with Helldivers 2’s launch performance.
Helldivers 2 sales have already reached the million mark
Pilestedt revealed that Helldivers 2 has already sold a million copies in response to a tweet showing the game ahead of Palworld on Steam charts. It’s rare for studios to reveal sales on Twitter without publisher approval so Pilestedt’s tweet was a bit of a departure from the norm. Nevertheless, Arrowhead thinks Helldivers 2’s performance need not be a secret.
Helldivers 2’s sales may seem low compared to some of Sony’s other hits but it doesn’t have the blockbuster status that the likes of God of War or Spider-Man enjoy. Nearly eight years in the making, Helldivers 2 might be Sony’s first PS5 live service hit after a few failed attempts and numerous canceled projects.
Whether Helldivers 2 will have legs or not remains to be seen. For now, Arrowhead is experiencing a high demand, leading to ongoing server issues that it’s working to resolve.
