Sony Expects PS5 Pro Compatible Games for Certification Starting August – Report

A new report claims that Sony Interactive Entertainment expects all submissions for certification starting August 2024 to be PS5 Pro compatible games. The hardware upgrade is all but confirmed, with all eyes on a rumored PlayStation Showcase scheduled for May. PS5 Pro dev kits have already made their way to developers.

Sony wants base PS5 and PS5 Pro compatible games to be shipped in a ‘single package’

According to The Verge, not only is Sony expecting “every game” submitted for certification in August to be PS5 Pro compatible, it’s also expecting devs to ship games compatible with both the base console and the upgraded hardware in a “single package” or SKU.

In addition to the above, The Verge has corroborated reports that devs will be able to release PS5 Pro patches for existing games. Not all third-party devs will jump to do this, but we do expect first-party games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and God of War Ragnarok to be patched.

The Verge got a hold of official documents that claim that the PS5 Pro is “a high-end version of PlayStation 5” with a mode that “targets 3.85GHz CPU frequency.” Developers will reportedly have the option to choose between a “standard” 3.5GHz mode or the aforementioned “high CPU frequency mode.”
