PS5 Pro Is Discless, Disc Drive Attachment Sold Separately

It seems the leaked PS5 Pro design from a couple weeks ago was accurate. Sony’s enhanced console does not include a disc drive. However, players can purchase a disc drive separately.

Can you get a disc drive for the PS5 Pro?

While the PS5 Pro won’t come with a disc drive out of the box, it can be purchased separately. The PS5 disc drive costs $79.99. That means players who want to use their discs will have to add that to the already steep $699.99 price tag.

There is a decent amount of storage on the PS5 Pro for players who do buy their games digitally. The console comes with a 2TB SSD. Games can range anywhere from just a few megabytes to hundreds of gigabytes, and games like Call of Duty and NBA 2K25 are incredibly large.

The PS5 Pro was just revealed at the Technical Presentation hosted by Mark Cerny. The “big three” improvements the new iteration features are AI driven upscaling, larger GPU, and advanced ray tracing. This allows the console to essentially eliminate graphics options, bridging the gap between performance and fidelity modes. Games like The Last of Us 2, Gran Turismo 7, Spider-Man 2, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will receive benefits from the new hardware.

The PS5 Pro launches on November 7, 2024 for $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY. Preorders begin on September 26, 2024. Similar to the disc drive, albeit arguably not as important, a vertical stand will be sold separately. All accessories, including PS VR2, the DualSense controller, and Pulse Elite wireless headset will be compatible.
