Why Control 2 Isn’t Affected by Annapurna Interactive Resignations

Yesterday, Bloomberg reported Annapurna Interactive‘s entire staff resigned after negotiations to spin out fell through. This leaves tons of unanswered questions on the table including concerns about Remedy Entertainment‘s recent partnership with the company to aid in Control 2‘s development. After many reached out, it has been confirmed the Finnish studio’s deal isn’t impacted by the mass resignation.

Why isn’t Control 2 development impacted by the recent Annapurna Interactive resignations?

Last month, Remedy and Annapurna announced a partnership in aiding with financing Control 2’s development. This sparked concerns from fans, asking those who may know about the situation. According to both Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier and Remedy Communications Director Thomas Puha, the upcoming sequel is not affected by the resignation.

“Since a lot of people are asking: Remedy’s deal for Control 2 and Alan Wake is with the broader company, Annapurna Pictures, and is not impacted by the departure of Annapurna Interactive’s staff,” says Schreier in a tweet.

“Many of you are reaching out about the news around Annapurna (sorry to see what is going on to all involved ) Interactive. Thank you for your care,” says Puha in a tweet. “Remedy’s deal for Control 2, including Alan Wake and Control AV rights, is with Annapurna Pictures, and we are self-publishing Control 2.”

Annapurna Pictures is a media company with several divisions. Annapurna Interactive is the company’s video game publishing arm, and the team that recently resigned. However, Remedy’s deal is with the broader company Annapurna Pictures and not specifically its game publishing wing, which is why Control 2’s development isn’t impacted.

Former Annapurna Interactive President Nathan Gary and the team made a joint statement with Bloomberg about the resignation. “All 25 members of the Annapurna Interactive team collectively resigned,’’ says Gary and the team. “This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make and we did not take this action lightly.”

Control 2 is currently in active development. Although Remedy has been working on the game for a bit now, the developer stated more news on the sequel won’t be out for awhile.
