PS5 Is More Convenient Than PC, Says PlayStation CEO

The gap between console and PC gaming draws closer every day. Consoles have seen vast improvements in visual quality and performance, but PC gaming always has the potential to outshine a PS5 in those aspects. So, what is the value of playing on a home console? Well, it seems the PlayStation CEO has the answer.

PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino explains why the PS5 is more accessible than PC and mobile

In a recent interview with Nikkei (translated on ResetEra), CEO of Sony Interactive’s Platform Business Group Hideaki Nishino was asked what the value of home consoles is as more people play on PC.

“I think that many mobile games have ads, and PCs are difficult to set up,” says Nishino. “With PS, you can play the content you purchased as soon as you turn it on. The products are clearly displayed in the stores where you buy software, so it’s an intuitive experience.”

The barriers of mobile and PC gaming hasn’t stopped Sony from releasing games on those platforms. Games like God of War (2018), Helldivers 2, and The Last of Us Part 1 are all available on PC. Nishino states that releasing games on these platforms allows them to reach a wider audience.

“We are trying to increase the overall game market by expanding content to PCs,” he says. “There is no doubt that home consoles will be the core of our business, but by offering titles for devices other than home consoles, we will reach a wider range of customers.”

It is clear Sony is committed to console gaming. After all, PlayStation recently announced the PS5 Pro, an upgraded version of its newest console. Boasting a faster GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI-driven upscaling, it is poised to bring the PC gaming experience with the convenience of a console. However, its high $699.99 price tag has been a sore subject for fans.
