The Prime Video God of War TV show seems to be in production hell as the showrunner and executive producers exit the project.
Why is the God of War TV show restarting production?
As reported by Deadline, showrunner/ EP Rafe Judkins, as well as EPs Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have left the God of War TV show. Although multiple scripts for the first season were completed, Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios reportedly want to go in a different direction. Despite creative differences, a source said the scripts were praised by both companies. With the trio leaving, Sony and Amazon will essentially restart the project as they hire a new writers room.
In association with PlayStation Productions, the co-produced Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios God of War TV show was formally announced in December 2022. The show had been in the works since March 2022. The show was slated to be an adaptation of PS4 hit God of War (2018).
Santa Monica Studio’s Cory Barlog, and Yumi Lang will still serve as EPs for the God of War TV show. Additionally, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Yumi Land, and Roy Lee will also EP.
God of War is not the only PlayStation TV show in turmoil. Netflix’s Horizon series has reportedly been shelved for now as showrunner Steve Blackman has been accused of toxicity and bullying.
There have been a few PlayStation television shows and movies that have seen the light of day. Twisted Metal, a franchise that has been absent from gaming for over 10 years, has a television show on Peacock, and it actually isn’t terrible. Max’s well received The Last of Us series is getting a second season next year. It will star Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, one of the two protagonists from Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2.
