Silent Hill 2 Sales Hits Milestone During Remake’s Launch Week

The Silent Hill 2 remake was arguably the most anticipated horror game of the year. At the very least, it was the most anticipated Silent Hill project Konami announced when the company revealed it was reviving the franchise back in 2022. These notions are reflected in the recently announced Silent Hill 2 sales numbers, as it reached an impressive milestone during its launch week.

What milestone did Silent Hill 2 sales hit?

Konami announced Silent Hill 2 sales reached 1 million copies between October 8 and 11. In less than a week, Bloober Team’s take on the beloved survival horror game hit the new sales milestone. It is noted on the game’s official site that the number includes physical and digital sales.

Player’s who have been following the game may not be too surprised by the Silent Hill 2 sales number. The remake reviewed rather favorably, reaching an 86 on Metacritic. Bloober Team was under quite a lot of pressure to get this game right for the fans. The studio started posting goofy gifs under several positive X (formerly Twitter) posts, signifying their relief.

Bloober Team’s concern was justified, as its previous titles haven’t reviewed quite as well. Games like Layers of Fear and The Medium are in the mid to low 70s. The sci-fi horror narrative game Observer is one of its most critically lauded, reaching a 79 metascore on the review aggregate site.

Despite Silent Hill 2 sales impressing and the generally positive consensus, it still got some criticism. A bunch of weirdo trolls started complaining about censorship and making characters ugly. Even famed artist Masahiro Ito wasn’t safe from the trolling, but he eventually blocked them.

Silent Hill 2 sales are not the only numbers impressive numbers this month. Atlus announced Metaphor: ReFantazio also hit the 1 million sales milestone on its launch day.
