It looks like PS Plus Premium is about to add one of PS2’s most popular game series to its classics lineup. We’ve been hearing reports on and off that Sony is remastering the original God of War games. It seems that leakers were on to something, but the rumblings we were hearing were actually about the PS2 classics being released via Sony’s new and improved emulator.
Why we think PS2 games God of War 1 & 2 might be headed to PS Plus
Over the weekend, a number of Premium subscribers spotted an image of Kratos from the original games featured in the PS2 section within the PS Plus tab. The PS Plus tab was recently revised on the PS5’s store and categorizes classics by platform, with the image of Kratos specifically headlining the PS2 section. Worth noting that Dino Crisis was previously leaked in a similar manner.
While we don’t know if it’s God of War 1, 2, or both coming to the service, people are speculating that both PS2 games will be added to the catalog because recent leaks have suggested that more than one game is being remastered. These won’t exactly be remasters, but expect visual and gameplay improvements as well as trophy support.
As for when we can expect God of War 1 and/or 2 to join the service, it took titles like Dino Crisis and Resistance Retribution quite some time to launch after they leaked, so we can’t say. What we are positive about is the games being available for standalone purchase when/if they launch.
