Following last month’s PS5 system update, players noticed that the console’s ‘Resume Activity’ feature disappeared. We reported this at the time, but weren’t sure if the feature was pulled intentionally or became bugged. However, changes included in today’s update lead us to believe that Sony intended to remove the feature.
PS5 update changes how Activities work, but there’s no option to ‘Resume Activity’
Update 24.07-10.20.00 is a relatively small patch, and its main purpose is to improve Activities. I saw quite a few players asking around if the update “fixed” the Resume Activity feature for anyone. Upon booting up my console, I noticed that the language on the Activity Cards changed, and there was no longer an option to “resume” any Activities. Sony has changed the wording on the cards to “Play Game.”
Players could previously jump straight into the relevant portion of a game via the Activity Cards. Now, they can only cold boot into the main menu. I wanted to be sure that I wasn’t the only one experiencing this, so I spent some time looking this up. Folks across Reddit and ResetEra have confirmed the change, and YouTuber Mystic has put out a pretty informative video that confirms my suspicions.
Resume Activity was not PS5’s most popular feature, but it came in handy and was used by enough players for this discussion to take place in several online communities. Sony hasn’t said anything about it, but the latest update pretty much confirms that the feature was pulled intentionally, and possibly for good.
We’re assuming lack of support is why this change was made.
