PS5 Pro enhanced label

First Look at PS5 Pro Enhanced Label on Game Boxes

I bet all the future PS5 Pro owners are wondering how they’ll know which games will be enhanced when they visit their favorite retail store. Well, the mystery is solved with the first look at the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label.

PS5 Pro enhanced games will be marked on physical game boxes

The first look comes from a X (formerly Twitter) post from Zuby_Tech. The image shows a limited edition physical copy of Empire of the Ants. As seen on the cover, it comes with a Steelbook, lithographs, and a digital soundtrack. What is also seen is the PS5 Pro Enhanced label next to the Pegi rating. It is a simple sticker placed over the game’s wrapping.

The label does have a short disclaimer. “PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced features vary by game,” it reads. “Internet required to download update.”

This is a pretty different direction than what Xbox did between its One and Series X|S generations. Any game that offered enhancements with the Series X would say “Optimized for Xbox Series X” on the back of the actual box. Maybe as the PS5 Pro is more established — and actually release — we’ll see more game boxes with PS5 Pro labeling.

The PS5 Pro was revealed in September 2024 during the PS5 Technical Showcase. Mark Cerny discussed the console’s “big three” features: a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI driven upscaling.

PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) essentially brings the benefits of current quality and performance graphics modes together for the best experience. Like DLSS or FSR, it lowers the native resolution of the image, then AI reconstructs the image to the higher target, which is typically 4K.

The PS5 Pro’s larger GPU allows for more detailed images. Improvements to lighting, visual effects, hair, skin, and more should be perceivable. Its advanced ray tracing capabilities should allow for higher quality ray traced reflections without sacrificing performance.

There are currently over 80 games confirmed to receive PS5 Pro enhancements. This includes Lords of the Fallen, Spider-Man 2, and Stellar Blade. The new and improved console will launch on November 7, 2024.
