The Until Dawn remake was marred by a good amount of technical issues when it launched last month. Luckily, it seems developer Ballistic Moon aims to fix the many issues that plague the PS5 version of the beloved PS4 cult classic. This includes bringing in some highly requested features that will hopefully smooth out its performance.
PS5 update for Until Dawn Remake adds graphics options
Until Dawn patch update 1.06’s most exciting features is the addition of Performance Mode and Fidelity Mode. Details on both visual modes are scarce, but they claim to do the expected. Performance Mode prioritizes frames per second; Fidelity Mode prioritizes graphics.
What the frame targets are for both these modes are not detailed. However, considering the game ran at 30 FPS, it may be safe to assume the Performance mode targets 60 FPS with upscaled 4K resolution, with some less detailed graphics. With Fidelity Mode prioritizing graphics, it will probably run at the game’s default 30 FPS, at a higher native resolution, and more detailed visuals.
The Until Dawn remake update also features a very long list of fixes and improvements to the PS5 version. Much of it is tied to animation bugs at certain points of the story. To avoid spoilers for a nearly 10 year old game, we won’t post the notes here. Anyone who wants to see what the fixes include can check out the full list for themselves.
Lastly, the notes include known issues that the development team is actively working on. This includes some visual bugs, and a trophy fix.
Until Dawn was originally developed by Supermassive Games back in 2015. Featuring stars like Hayden Panettiere and Rami Malek, the story driven horror game has garnered a dedicated fan base clamoring for a sequel. It seems this may actually come to fruition as a follow-up is reportedly in the works at Firesprite Studio.
