Following the removal of PS Store Wallet fund rewards, some PS Stars users are canceling their membership in protest. Recent changes made to the loyalty program are already unpopular, and with PS Store credit options either removed or reduced to a single denomination, many say PS Stars is of little use.
PS Stars is free, so will canceling membership help?
Over on the PS Stars subreddit and other dedicated gaming forums, players have been announcing the cancellation of their memberships. In response to those who have pointed out that PS Stars is free to use and there are other rewards to avail, players say that canceling memberships en masse will “send a message.”
Prior to the removal of Wallet funds — whether intentionally or not — Sony announced that subscription purhcases including PS Plus are no longer eligible to earn points. Additionally, points will now expire within a year, so players may be forced to spend whatever they’ve racked up on rewards that they’re least interested it.
While it’s true that PS Stars is free and Sony probably doesn’t care about mass cancellations, it’s not a good look for the company because the program is well behind both Microsoft and Nintendo reward programs.
Here’s hoping Sony improves PS Stars.
