PlayStation Portal may have been conceived as a PS4 remote player.

PS Portal Owners Claim PS5 Pro Improves Remote Gaming

The newly released PS5 Pro improves a player’s gaming experience in a number of ways. It’s larger GPU, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology, and advanced Ray Tracing capabilities surely enhance the visuals and performance of most games. However, some players claim it also improves remote gaming on the PS Portal.

Does the PS5 Pro improve remote gaming on the PS Portal?

Found on the dedicated PS Portal subreddit, several users are claiming the PS5 Pro has improved their experience with the remote gaming device. This includes alleviating a stuttering issue, and the addition of HDR support.

While there are certain facets that could see potential improvement, it is highly unlikely using a PS5 Pro is solving stuttering issues or magically supporting HDR for the PS Portal. In the case of the one user no longer experiencing stuttering issues, it’s more likely this is an example of the placebo effect in action. For those claiming it supports HDR now, it’s important to note high contrast does not always equate to HDR.

The PS Portal is a remote gaming device which allows players to stream PS5 games at the palm of their hands. So yes, there are some areas in which using a PS5 Pro could improve, like with Ray Tracing effects, or other visual details that don’t require specific hardware. Features like HDR, 4K resolution, or 120 frames per second gameplay can’t be done on the device because the PS Portal screen does not support it.

Although the PS5 Pro doesn’t fully necessarily improve the PS Portal performance, that doesn’t mean players can’t enjoy one of the over 50 games enhanced for the new console. Games like The Last of Us Part 1, Spider-Man 2, and Stellar Blade received updates improving both the visuals and performance players can experience on compatible displays.
