Xbox Fans Not Happy With Potential Sony Kadokawa Acquisition

Just a few days ago, it was reported FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa Corporation may be acquired by Sony. This raised concerns about console exclusivity, and if Sony would bring games under the conglomerate’s umbrella to Xbox. While that answer will remain a mystery until the acquisition goes through, fans of Microsoft’s gaming brand are not too pleased with the potential purchase.

Xbox fans concerned Kadokawa acquisition will make FromSoftware and Spike Chunsoft games PlayStation exclusive

In a recent post from the Xbox subreddit, Xbox fans voiced their displeasure with Sony possibly acquiring Kadokawa Corporation. Specifically, this post references the media conglomerate confirming it has received a letter of intent from Sony for the acquisition, but has not yet made a decision.

As Kadokawa Corporation is the parent company of FromSoftware and Spike Chunsoft, Xbox fans seem convinced Sony will make games from those companies exclusive. The top comment on the thread claims Xbox owners are all “f***ed” from all future FromSoftware games. Others simply suggest purchasing a PC assuming these alleged exclusive would receive a PC version. It’s not a bad assumption to have since PlayStation has recently begun bringing its games to PC.

It seems a bit silly to think FromSoftware games would become PlayStation exclusive if this acquisition went through. The developer recently announced Elden Ring sold 25 million units. Even if it sold most on PlayStation consoles, a number like that may not have been obtainable if it was console exclusive.

Meanwhile, Phil Spencer and the team at Xbox are slowly removing “exclusive” from its vernacular. The company recently launched the “This Is An Xbox” campaign which aims to bring the console experience to any device that can play video games. Additionally, they’ve already started bringing its games to PlayStation. Its latest was Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. They also announced Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is coming to PS5 next year.
