PlayStation has joined a growing list of users who have opened Bluesky accounts as X (formerly Twitter) has become increasingly controversial for many. Numerous websites have been billed as alternatives to X since it was taken over by Elon Musk, including Meta’s Threads. But none have gained popularity quite like Bluesky.
PlayStation joining Bluesky is more about reaching fans where they are
Although we understand why a large number of individuals are shifting to Bluesky, PlayStation’s move isn’t exactly a statement, like some fans have assumed. Social media replaced traditional methods of marketing, advertisement, and promotion long ago, and companies tend to have official accounts on all major websites.
PlayStation, for instance, isn’t just on Facebook, X, YouTube, and Instagram. The company also has social media accounts on Threads and Tiktok, among others.
Back in 2023, PlayStation officially ended support for X integration on its platforms. Microsoft and Nintendo also pulled the plug, presumably due to the website’s new API policies. Musk said at the time that he would reach out to PlayStation for a resolution, but to this day, X integration remains suspended on all consoles including the PS5.
It remains to be seen if PlayStation offers Bluesky integration at some point.
