PS Portal sales

PS Portal Is a ‘Huge Success’ and Will Continue to Evolve, Says Sony

PlayStation boss Hideaki Nishino has reiterated that PS Portal sales have been a “huge success” story for the company, and the handheld will continue to evolve as Sony looks for new ways to bring PlayStation games to players. Speaking to BBC, Nishino teased that the recent introduction of direct cloud streaming on PS Portal is just the start.

PS Portal sales reportedly encouraged Sony to explore a new handheld

Following recent reports, the BBC tried quizzing both Nishno and co-CEO Hermen Hulst about a new PlayStation portable console, which they understandably dodged. However, Nishino did say that the way people play games is changing, and that change drove PS Portal’s release and subsequent success.

“Recently, we just announced a beta program, allowing Cloud streaming directly to the handheld,” Nishino added. “We’re always exploring various options for how players can play games.”

It has been reported that following a portable gaming hiatus, Sony has been tinkering with a new handheld, prototypes for which might already be out there. PS Portal’s success has reportedly encouraged those efforts further, and with Microsoft making no secret of its plans to introduce an Xbox handheld, Sony is probably unwilling to be left behind on that front in the PS6 generation.
