Stellar Blade Dev Recreates Iconic PS4 Ad With Shuhei Yoshida

After 31 years at Sony, long-time PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida departed the company. Seeming like a permanent fixture with PlayStation, he was one of the more forward facing leaders for the company. People within the industry always had positive things to say about him, including Stellar Blade developer and Shift Up CEO Hyung-tae Kim, who hilariously recreated one of Yoshida’s most iconic moments.

In an X (formerly Twitter) post from Kim, the CEO reminisced about the first time they saw Yoshida in a commercial. The commercial referenced is the Official PlayStation Used Game Instructional Video in which Yoshida and former PlayStation VP Adam Boyes walkthrough how to lend PS4 games to a friend. It was an obvious dig at the Xbox One, and probably one of the more known ads PlayStation has released in either PS4 or PS5 era.

Attached to the post is a picture of Yoshida and Boyes from the commercial. Next to it is Yoshida and Tae recreating the moment. They even found a copy of Killzone: Shadow Fall to accurately portray the video.

Tae also thanks Yoshida for his work and support in the industry.

“I remembered the first time I saw Yoshida Shuhei in a commercial,” says the translated post. “Thank you for all your hard work and support for the gaming world. Thank you very much!”

Yoshida made his departure announcement in late November. While he is moving on from Sony, he does want to stay in the video games industry. It is still unknown if he has already landed a gig.

Shift Up has been busy supporting its latest release Stellar Blade. Just last month, the developer collaborated with Nier: Automata for a new DLC pack. It included several cosmetics for Eve, as well as one for the Drone, Adam, and Lily.
