CD Projekt RED has said that although it wants The Witcher 4 on all major platforms, it can’t go into any specifics yet, giving birth to speculations that the game might launch on next-gen consoles including PS6. In an interview with Eurogamer, game director Sebastian Kalemba said that the studio is currently working on a new engine.
Will The Witcher 4 launch on PS6 and next-gen Xbox?
Following the Cyberpunk 2077 fiasco, CDPR appears to be exercising caution considering how demanding its games can be. Additionally, Xbox Series S continues to be a major concern for devs building graphically intensive games.
“We are working on a new engine right now, together with Epic’s engineers, and there is a great synergy and a great collaboration between us.” Kalemba told Eurogamer. “Obviously, we want to support all the platforms – meaning PC, Xbox and Sony, right? – but I cannot, right now, tell you more specifics regarding that.”
Although work on The Witcher 4 has ramped up, CDPR hasn’t provided a release window. Guesstimates suggest that its release window will be sometime during or after 2026, at the very least. Considering the current generation will be nearing the end of its life cycle by that time, we won’t be surprised if The Witcher 4 skips current-gen platforms in favor of the PS6 gen.
