Sony on PS5, PS4 life cycle and PS6 launch

Sony Thinks PS5 Will Be Used ‘For a Long Time Like PS4’

Sony Interactive Entertainment co-CEO Hideaki Nishino has said that the company expects the PS5 to have legs similar to the PS4. However, the company has no plans to delay the launch of the PS6 because it considers it necessary to keep up with technological advancements while supporting older consoles.

Both PS4 and PS5 were designed to last a while, and PS6 will be no different

During an interview with Japanese publication Famitsu, Nishino was asked about future prospects considering the longevity of the PS4, in response to which he said that the PS5 “will be around for a long time, just like the PS4.”

“I don’t think it’s right to delay the release of the next product that incorporates new technology because it [PS5] will be around for a long time,” Nishino added. “I think it is important to provide new things while playing the ones that are currently in operation, and to expand in total.”

In response to a separate question, Nishino said that the PS4 was designed to last, and the PS5 is no different. As for the PS6, he says that Sony wants to introduce hardware that lasts a long time and combine that effort with introducing new technology to players.

“We believe that products are released with a balance of technology, price, and timing,” Nishino concluded.
