Sony has revealed that there’s an even split between players who use the PS5 rest mode and those who switch off their consoles. In an interview with GameFile, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Cory Gasaway said that the company assumed more players use the rest mode, but was surprised when data showed a 50/50 split.
PS5’s Welcome Hub was inspired by the 50% that don’t use rest mode
Gasaway revealed that Welcome Hub is the product of a PlayStation group “hackathon,” and created by a small team. One of the reasons the company decided to roll it out was the aforementioned 50% split.
The idea behind the Welcome Hub is that those who switch their PS5s back on are greeted with a screen that carries useful information and widgets. Meanwhile, those resting their consoles can jump back into the game they were playing, if they left one running prior to using the rest mode.
Interestingly, GameFile states that the Welcome Hub has “become a point of pride at SIE for germinating new ideas.” Fans, however, may have a different opinion. While the Welcome Hub is a nice new feature, many have said that they would have preferred having dynamic themes back as opposed to the Welcome Hub.
