PlayStation Already in the Process of Reviving Some Old IPs – Report

Following an official statement which suggested that Sony is keen to revive some of the older PlayStation IP, a rumor has cropped up that the company is already working on some of those franchises. The issue of beloved IP staying dormant keeps coming up from time to time, and it looks like Sony has taken notice.

Sony may revive old PlayStation IP to supplement major new releases

According to Video Game Chronicle’s Andy Robinson, Sony is working on “a couple” of old IP, like “the deep, deep cut old IP stuff.” We’re not quite sure what Robinson means by “deep cut old IP,” but we get the impression that he’s talking about PS1, PS2 games as opposed to something like PS4’s Bloodborne.

“Maybe some smaller games supplementing their big releases,” Robinson continued, adding a little bit of weight to our theory above.

In September 2024, Sony caused a stir when it said that the company’s entertainment divisions, including PlayStation, didn’t have enough original IP. Following this, PlayStation boss Hermen Hulst was quizzed about fan demands for reviving some of the dormant franchises, to which he said that Sony is “exploring opportunities to leverage our legacy IP as well as develop new franchises.”

We’re keeping our expectations in check for now.
