Nintendo Switch 2 vs PS5 sales

PS5 Will Beat Switch 2 US Sales in 2025, Analyst Predicts

A veteran analyst reckons that should Nintendo Switch 2 launch in the first half of 2025, PS5 sales will beat the console in the U.S. Circana’s Mat Piscatella also predicted supply constraints that’ll last several months due to a high initial demand for Nintendo’s highly-anticipated next-gen console.

Can PS5 beat Switch 2 sales in the US if supply meets demand?

Piscatella didn’t delve too much into why he thinks PS5 will beat Switch 2 in its first year beyond supply constraints and possibly a late 2025 release. We do wonder if his prediction will hold should Nintendo not face any hardware constraints.

Still, it’s a bold prediction considering PS5 is in the latter half of its life cycle. But if GTA 6 does indeed release this year, we do expect a massive surge in demand for Sony’s console.

“I have Nintendo’s next hardware device selling 4.3 million units in the US in 2025 (assuming 1H launch), accounting for approximately 1/3rd of all video game console hardware units sold in the year (excluding PC Portables),” Piscatella wrote on Bluesky. “Units sold will, of course, be dependent upon manufacturing capabilities and will. I still expect PlayStation 5 to rank 1st in overall hardware units sold in the US during the year.”
