Sleeping Dogs 2 hopes dashed

Sleeping Dogs 2 Hopes Dashed Further After More Bad News

Any hopes left for Sleeping Dogs 2 have been dashed after a new update that have fans fearing that the franchise is actually dead. Actor and filmmaker Donnie Yen has confirmed to Polygon what we’ve long feared: Sleeping Dogs’ Hollywood adaptation has been canceled.

Fans were hoping Sleeping Dogs 2 would become a reality following a movie

Released in 2012, Sleeping Dogs holds a positive rating of 83/100 on Metacritic for its PS3 version. The game garnered a cult following and went on to sell millions, but was ultimately considered a commercial failure by publisher Square Enix. Its developer, United Front Games, shut down and a planned sequel was canceled.

Still, some fans held out hope that a movie would revive interest in the game, breathing new life into the doomed sequel. Now, that last bit of hope has been dashed and the IP is presumed dead.

“I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights,” Yen told Polygon. “I waited for years. Years. And I really want to do it. I have all these visions in my head, and unfortunately… I don’t know, you know how Hollywood goes, right?”

Truly a shame.
