Rumors about an Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag remake are sailing around the internet once again. This time, it is reportedly confirmed the reimagining will be more than just a visual update, and may actually feature new gameplay systems.
Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag remake reportedly features new gameplay systems
As reported by MP1st, the new information comes from the online profile of the game’s designer, which lists the Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag remake. It’s claimed the remake will be built using the upgraded Anvil Engine, the same engine Ubisoft has used for the franchise since the beginning. Additionally, it mentions new gameplay systems for combat, and “ecosystems around wildlife.”
MP1st notes that this is the same developer that accidentally listed the rumored The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake. The latest rumors surrounding the Bethesda remake also mentions gameplay systems not featured in the original.
Reports regarding the remake go as far as 2023, where Kotaku reported their sources claimed the game was in very early development. In the beginning of 2024, speculation about the remake began to swirl again as fans believed references to the game were included in several Ubisoft employees’ LinkedIn profiles.
In October last year, Insider Gaming claimed the remake was initially scheduled for a release around November 2025. However, the recent Assassin’s Creed Shadows delays may have shifted time tables since that report.
It would not be surprising if an Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag remake did exist. Especially considering Ubisoft confirmed it is currently working on remakes for some of the older entries.
“Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich,” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.
Like every leak or rumor like this, take this information with a grain of salt. It’s possible this is real, but it’s also possible this never sees the light of day especially considering the state of the industry. We’ll know more if it ever gets formally revealed.
