After months upon months of frustration, PS5 disc drives are finally starting to make an appearance in stores, indicating that Sony‘s addressing the issue. We recently reported that scalpers had been hoarding disc drives and selling them for more than double the price on eBay ever since it emerged that the accessory won’t be bundled with the PS5 Pro. It looks like this will no longer be a problem in the near future.
PS5 disc drives appearing and disappearing online, but keep looking
Over the last couple of days, we saw numerous reports of the disc drive popping up at retail as well as online stores. We can confirm that at the time of this writing, there’s still some inventory left on PS Direct in the U.S. We did spot some drives in Sony’s U.K. store, but unfortunately, it’s now out of stock.
That said, we advise our readers to regularly check online (and physical, if you can) stores as the drives reappear quite frequently. As mentioned above, there’s still some stock left on PS Direct.
As a reminder, while the original PS5 digital consoles don’t support standalone disc drives, the add-on is compatible with the PS5 Slim digital edition.
