If Electronic Arts didn’t already enough trouble about the latest reboot of their Medal of Honor franchise, it turns out the used game giant GameStop will no longer have anything to do with the game on US military bases throughout the country.
In an email sent out to all GameStop locations and then later obtained by Kotaku, the retailer made the decision “out of respect for our past and present men and women in uniform.” The email then reads,
“GameStop has agreed out of respect for our past and present men and women in uniform we will not carry Medal of Honor in any of our AAFES based stores… As such, GameStop agreed to have all marketing material pulled by noon today and to stop taking reservations. Customers who enter our AAFES stores and wish to reserve Medal of Honor can and should be directed to the nearest GameStop location off base. GameStop fully supports AAFES in this endeavor and is sensitive to the fact that in multiplayer mode one side will assume the role of Taliban fighter.”
While EA has already made a statement concerning why their game includes playing as the Taliban, it seems to be going over the heads of their opposition. The silver lining in this whole debacle at least GameStop is not boycotting the sale of Medal of Honor altogether. What do you think?
