PS3 Surround Sound System Heading to Retailers Next Week

Sony has just announced that the official PlayStation-branded surround sound system for the PS3 will be hitting retailers next week, and it’s bringing with it all sorts of awesome.

The new system will come in the form of a surround sound bar, meant to fit discreetly under or on top of any television or entertainment center. Aside from the fact that this will most likely be the easiest solution for those yet to adopt a surround sound set-up, the system will also feature settings designed specifically for gamers, such as the ability to enhance vocals in games to ensure clarity, as well as the ability to enable night mode, which compresses sudden, dramatic changes in volume for those who like to game after-hours.

Here are the specifications according to Amazon:

  • Proprietary S-Force technology creates the equivalent of five-speaker surround sound
  • Four sound fields (standard, stereo, vivid, dynamic) and two sound modes (night, dialogue) designed specifically for gaming
  • 2.1 channels
  • Integrated subwoofer for added convenience
  • Sleek and compact design matching PS3 system aesthetics

The PS3 surround sound system will retail for $179.99, which certainly isn’t cheap, but not too bad considering the form-factor and quality that’s often associated with Sony sound systems. We’ll do our best to provide a review once we’re able to get our hands on said sound system. Until then, be sure to stay tuned to PlayStation LifeStyle for all your gaming needs!
