THQ has many intellectual properties under its name, such as Red Faction, Saints Row, Smackdown, and UFC Undisputed. But the company may be ready to branch out and produce even more original properties.
Speaking with investors at the recent Credit Suisse 2010 Technology Conference, THQ’s CEO Brian Farrell laid out the company’s plans:
“We are curtailing some of our investments in the younger licensed products; those are the things that are not working as well as they used to. But the real win in the industry and for us is that we think there’s significant value creation will come from owned IP like Homefront, like UDraw, Like Red Faction, like Saint’s Row.“
He then later stated that new IP seems to be the way to go by stating that “we think there’s more to come [in the form of] owned IP generation.” While this could simply mean more sequels in their proven franchises, completely brand new intellectual properties should not be out of the question. Their upcoming Homefront game does look to deliver an intense experience, but what other genre would you like to see THQ try out?
