As with previous installments by Bethesda, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be no stranger to mature themes. Although the ESRB has given it a Mature rating, its popularity has raised questions about whether or not the offensive material can be disabled.
Pete Hines, VP of Marketing, has confirmed that a content filter will not be included with Skyrim. He posted via Twitter:
You cannot disable blood/gore in Skyrim. Sorry. My oldest kid is not happy he can’t play either.
We learned earlier in the week that Skyrim will go as far as featuring group cannibalism that the main character, Dragonborn, can participate in. That, along with slow-motion decapitations, drinking contests, and sexual dialogue makes this a game one of the more provocative titles of the year, and one of those rare gems that can sell millions of copies despite not being family-friendly.
