Mario, 3DS Rule Japan’s Charts; Gundam, Ezio Put Up a Fight

Namco Bandai’s PS3-exclusive multiplayer blast Gundam Extreme Vs arrived to the anticipation of many, but was outsold, perhaps expectedly, by Mario Kart 7 for the Nintendo 3DS. The systems sales mirrored this, as the PS3 saw an increase but was ultimately sitting second to the much younger Nintendo hardware. Here, we’ve got the full charts.

Another note here is the huge drop taken by Skyward Sword; its stellar debut of 227,000 units in its first four days turned around and became just over 32,000 in the next full week, dropping it from first place to fifth. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, meanwhile, enjoys a nice debut at number four. Considering the only games above it are a pair of Mario titles and Japan’s most popular arcade game (in a country where arcades are still a big deal), that’s very impressive.

The PSP and PS3 had significantly above-average weeks, actually, but to anyone looking at these figures, those numbers will be easily overshadowed by the crazy amount of 3DS units that went flying off shelves.

3DS: 205,962

PS3: 40,668

PSP: 39,547

Wii: 31,071

DS/DSi/LL: 6,751

360: 1,660

PS2: 1,500

With this many 3DS units being sold, Monster Hunter 3G is looking to make a huge impact when it goes on sale December 15th. Can the Vita keep up in the face of Mario and MonHan? We’ll see.
