THQ president Jason Rubin has just announced that Guillermo del Toro’s Insane franchise has officially been canned.
Rubin went on to add that alongside the game’s cancellation, pursuits in the Facebook, mobile, and social space have been scrapped as well. THQ has been struggling for quite some time, so the news that this project is no long in the works should hardly come as a surprise (del Toro also doesn’t have the best project track record).
The game was announced back in 2010 during the Spike Video Game Awards and was initially set out to be a trilogy with the first out in 2013. Over the past few years, the publisher has taken a turn for the worst, so they’ve understandably had to cut several projects and focus on those that are most important.
With Darksiders II set to release next week, THQ’s future hinges on the coming days. Will Jason Rubin be able to get the company back on its feet? Let us know whether or not you have faith in the future of THQ in the comments below.
