Originally releasing all the way back in 2007 as Earth Defense Force 2017, D3Publisher will be bringing the Sandlot developed third-person shooter Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable to the PlayStation Vita this winter.
The core of the game (3D arcade action and system features) will remain the same in this portable version, but it will see an online co-op mode, new missions, new enemies, new weapons, and a new playable character in Pale Wing who is unlocked after certain conditions are met.
In the online portion of EDF2017P, you’ll be able to play with up to four players, teaming up to defend Earth from The Ravagers. Each player will be able to choose their own weapons, including new ones that can assist your teammates or even revive the fallen ones.
Full voice chat will be supported as well and if you don’t want to work together with other people, there will be a PvP multiplayer mode where you can battle people around the world.
Miki Takahashi, Assistant Producer at D3Publisher, had this to say about the formal announcement:
Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable is packed with new features. I think fans will be most excited about being able to play online with their friends, as EDF has always been a game that players have enjoyed sharing with others. For those new to the EDF world, welcome! I think you will find an over-the-top action arcade experience that will keep you coming back to your PS Vita for more.
