Report Indicates PS3 Exceeds Xbox 360 in Total Shipments Worldwide

Since the PS3 was released in 2006, it has been slowly catching up to the Xbox 360 in sales after its year head start. It seems now that the PS3 is finally actually winning in global sales.

According to a “market analysis” document written by Lewis Ward of International Data Corporation called Worldwide Video Game Entertainment Console Hardware and Packaged Software 2012-2016 Forecast, “Sony’s PS3 managed to surpass the number of Xbox 360s shipped worldwide (about 77 million vs. 76 million), despite the PS3 launching a year later.” It is crucial to understand that the console numbers are shipped and not sold.

This comes as great news for Sony since its video game division is one of the few which is profitable. The PS4 is expected to be announced later this year – will they be able to ‘win’ once again?
