If there is one thing that PlayStation LifeStyle has been lacking, it is trophy coverage. As PSLS’ resident trophy hunter, I have decided that it is my civic duty to provide our readers with coverage and features on trophies. Without further ado, the Dead Space 3 trophy guide!
Please note: Trophy guides will often contain spoiler information for the game. While I have tried to keep it as spoiler free as possible, there are still some minor spoilers regarding the game in the guide. This trophy guide does not include a collectibles walkthrough, but tells you how to get all the trophies.
Brave New World – Platinum
-Obtain all trophies.
Simple! Just collect all of the other trophies and this one is yours!
Get On My Level – Bronze
-Complete the game on any difficulty setting.
There are four difficulty settings to choose from when you start the game. Simply beat the game on any one of these difficulty settings to unlock this trophy.
The Explorer – Bronze
-Complete all optional missions.
Throughout the course of the game you will be given ten optional missions that will send you on an alternate path to collect items and resources. Complete each of these missions for this trophy. This includes the three optional co-op missions as well. In chapter select there is an option to view your progress for each chapter. This will show which co-op missions you still need to complete and even allow you to select that mission and start playing right where that mission is, so if you want to skip them during the game, you can easily get back to where they are.
Aren’t You Thankful? – Gold
-Complete the game on Hardcore Mode.
Good luck! You unlock Hardcore mode by completing the story on any difficulty. When you select Hardcore mode, the game will make a new save file, so none of your inventory or upgrades will carry over. Hardcore mode introduces permadeath to Dead Space. Though the difficulty is not mentioned, from my experience it seems concurrent with the other modes’ Hard difficulty setting. When you die, you’re done. You will still autosave and can take breaks, but if you die your Hardcore save is reset to the beginning of the game. Though this sounds intimidating, there is a trick to make it significantly easier. As long as you have an external USB drive or thumbstick, you can upload your save game to that drive. When you die, simply delete your existing Hardcore save and use the USB to restore your old save game file to pick up where you left off. For those that want to do this legitimately, I wish you godspeed and good luck.
Epic Tier 4 Engineer – Silver
-Complete the game in Classic Mode.
Classic mode is unlocked upon completing the game on any difficulty. When you select Classic mode, the game will make a new save file, so none of your inventory or upgrades will carry over. This mode takes away the experimental weapon crafting, limits you to building classic weapons via blueprint, disables co-op, uses classic Dead Space aiming and the difficulty is set to Hard. Running through this mode should not be too difficult, especially if you are used to playing Dead Space games and your first playthrough was on Hard or above. Chapter select is enabled, so if you need to go back and collect health, ammo, or resources to upgrade, you can.
Survivalist – Silver
-Complete the game in Pure Survival Mode.
Pure Survival mode is unlocked upon completing the game on any difficulty. When you select Pure Survival mode, the game will make a new save file, so none of your inventory or upgrades will carry over. In Pure Survival you cannot find health or ammo in the world. These items must be crafted at benches using gathered resources. The difficulty level is set to Hard. Benches can be found fairly often so it’s a matter of managing resources in between each bench location. Try to recall your first playthrough to determine what you will need as you pass each bench. Make sure to conserve ammo by using kinesis and stasis. Again, this one may take a bit of effort and thought, but shouldn’t be too difficult. Chapter select is enabled, so you can go back to previous chapters to collect resources if necessary to continue.
Gun Collector – Bronze
-Collect all Weapon Parts.
Weapon parts are the frames, engines, tips, and add-ons for modifying weapons that you can find throughout the game. If you are thoroughly exploring every area then you should have most of these by the end of the game. Some weapon parts may be located in the optional and co-op missions and behind doors that require you to craft a torque bar at a bench, so make sure you are scouring these areas as well. Chapter select will tell you how many weapon parts you’ve collected in each chapter so you know which general areas you need to search.
The Professor – Bronze
-Collect all Artifacts.
Artifacts are the EarthGov, Unitology, S.C.A.F., and Alien Artifacts that you can find throughout the game. Most of the artifacts are more off of the beaten path, but if you are thoroughly exploring every area then you should have most of these by the end of the game. Some artifacts will be located in the optional and co-op missions, so make sure you are scouring these areas as well. Chapter select will tell you how many artifacts you’ve collected in each chapter so you know which general areas you need to search.
The Librarian – Bronze
-Collect all Logs.
Logs are the text and audio logs that you can find throughout the game that give further backstory. If you are thoroughly exploring every area then you should have most of these by the end of the game. Some logs will be located in the optional and co-op missions, so make sure you are scouring these areas as well. Chapter select will tell you how many logs you’ve collected in each chapter so you know which general areas you need to search.
The Armorer – Bronze
-Collect all Circuits.
Circuits are the upgrade circuits for your weapons. Make sure you are thoroughly searching each area and opening the cabinets on the walls, as this is where a lot of the circuits can be found. If you are thoroughly exploring every area then you should have most of these by the end of the game. Some circuits may be located in the optional and co-op missions and behind doors that require you to have a torque bar crafted at a bench, so make sure you are scouring these areas as well. Chapter select will tell you how many circuits you’ve collected in each chapter so you know which general areas you need to search.
There’s Always Peng! – Silver
-Find Peng.
Finding the Peng treasure has been a part of every numbered iteration of Dead Space. In Chapter 14 you will be given an optional mission to investigate the Reaper barracks. Proceed through the mission until you come to the pump room. After going all the way through the first tunnel with the spiked piston that you must stasis, turn around and stasis the piston after it passes the doorway. Once you do this, look to the left through the piston’s supports inside the small hallway/tunnel and kinesis the Peng figure from the floor behind the piston. If you have passed this point you can select the optional mission via chapter select and start very close by. You must have an open spot in your inventory to collect the Peng treasure.
My Buddy – Bronze
-Retrieve Resources from a Scavenger Bot at a Bench.
You will automatically acquire a Scavenger Bot fairly early in the story. When you do acquire one, press the up button on the D-pad to equip it and hold L1 to search for a resource cache. Follow the radar and when the screen of the bot is flashing blue, press R1 to deploy it. Continue playing and after a short period of time the game will tell you that the scavenger bot has returned to the bench. The next time you visit a bench you will receive this trophy.
Metal Detector – Bronze
-Successfully deploy Scavenger Bots to 15 Resource Areas.
You will automatically acquire a Scavenger Bot fairly early in the story. When you do acquire one, press the up button on the D-pad to equip it and hold L1 to search for a resource cache. Follow the radar and when the screen of the bot is flashing blue, press R1 to deploy it. Do this fifteen times and the trophy is yours.
Strapped – Bronze
-Craft a Weapon.
Your first opportunity to visit a bench is early in chapter 3. Upon reaching a bench, simply craft a new weapon and you will receive this trophy.
Circuit’s Edge – Bronze
-Add a Circuit to a Weapon.
Circuits will upgrade your weapons’ stats. Visit a bench and add a circuit to a weapon to get this very easy trophy.
EMT – Bronze
-Craft a Large Med Pack.
Med packs can be crafted at a bench. While visiting a bench select the ‘craft item’ option. Select Large Med Pack and (as long as you have sufficient resources to craft it) this trophy will pop.
Full House – Bronze
-Craft a Weapon with 2 Tools, Tips, and Attachments with all Circuit slots filled.
Over the course of the game you will collect a variety of weapon parts and upgrades. Keep checking back at benches and adding parts to your weapons. As soon as you have a weapon that has both upper and lower tools filled with tips, attachments, and circuits, the trophy is yours. You should easily be able to get this about halfway into the game.
RIG Master – Silver
-Fully upgrade your RIG.
At suit kiosks you will have the option to change your suit or upgrade your rig. You need to upgrade all parts of your rig, stasis, and kinesis to get this trophy. If you don’t have it done by the end of the game, you can use chapter select, co-op, and New Game + to get additional resources and keep all of your current upgrades.
Master Plan – Bronze
-Create a Blueprint that needs at least 2000 resources worth of parts and Circuits to build.
See Full House. Once you have a weapon that has all parts and circuit clots filled, go to a bench and choose to modify that weapon. Press triangle to create a blueprint and you should get this trophy if th value is over 2000 resources.
From the Jaws – Bronze
-Save your Co-Op partner from an execution by killing the attacker.
An execution is the cutscene where you have to mash the X button in order to escape almost certain death from a Necromorph. Most enemies have an execution animation if they are close enough to your character. Wait until your co-op partner (can be as Isaac or Carver) is in an execution animation with a Necro. Make sure that you kill the Necromorph to save your partner, and you will get this trophy. This is most effectively accomplished with powerful weapons and on lower difficulties to ensure that your attacks kill the Necromorph rather than just knock it off of your partner.
Share and Share Alike – Bronze
-Use the RIG to give an item to your Co-Op partner.
While playing in co-op, press Select to bring up your rig (see Seb, games DO still use the Select button). Select the item that you would like to give to your partner and press X. Select the ‘Give’ option. As long as your partner has enough room in their inventory, they will receive the item and you will receive the trophy.
Medic! – Bronze
-Revive your Co-Op partner 10 times.
When your co-op partner runs out of health, as long as their death was not a dismemberment or execution, they will be in a ‘down’ state. If you have a health pack you can revive your partner by running up next to them and pressing the button prompt. Do this 10 times and get the trophy.
Ghosts of the Past – Silver
-Face all of Carver’s demons by completing all Co-Op only optional missions.
This trophy description is slightly misleading. To get this trophy you only need to complete each of the co-op only optional missions. This does not require you to be Carver and actually experience his dementia. This trophy can be received if you play all of the co-op missions while hosting the game as Isaac as well (or even if you mix and match). There are three total co-op missions and they can be selected from chapter select menu to easily get to each of their origination points.
Architect – Bronze
-Share a Blueprint with your Co-Op partner.
While at a bench and playing in co-op, select the blueprints option. Select the blueprint that you want to share and press Square to share it with your co-op partner. The trophy should pop shortly after.
Axes High – Bronze
-Kill 30 enemies using Fodder axes.
This trophy is very specific. Fodder are the enemies that carry a melee weapon in each hand. They are the first enemies that you face in the prologue of the game. Unfortunately some Fodder (or Wasters) do not carry axes. They will carry crowbars or similar weapons that do not count for the trophy. Ice picks will count, as well as the actual axes themselves. This is best done on Casual difficulty. Stasis the Fodder and dismember their arm, then kinesis the axe and throw it back at them. With a fully upgraded Kinesis and on Casual difficulty, this should instantly kill the fodder (though will occasionally only result in tentacles popping out). Do this 30 times and the trophy will ding. You can check your total by selecting ‘Trophies’ from the pause menu.
Payback – Bronze
-Kill a Soldier by TK’ing a grenade or rocket back at them.
Most groups of human enemies will have at least one soldier that will have a rocket launcher or throw grenades at you. Use kinesis to grab the explosive and hurl it back at the soldier to kill them and earn the trophy.
Go for the Limbs! – Bronze
-Dismember 500 limbs from living enemies.
This one is a Dead Space classic. You will earn this one very naturally while playing through the game. Just dismember every necromorph that you fight (once they are dead it will not count), and you should reach 500 before the end of the game.
And Then We Doubled It! – Bronze
-Dismember 1000 limbs from living enemies.
See Go For The Limbs! Chances are you will not get this one in a single playthrough. It carries over through co-op, chapter select, and New Game +, so it should be easy to clean up and get the remaining dismemberments that you need to total 1000. Your total can be found by selecting ‘Trophies’ in the pause menu.
Slow Mo – Bronze
-Kill 50 enemies while they are in stasis.
If you use stasis for combat (which you should be), you’ll have this long before the end of the game. Stasis enemies to slow them down and aim at their limbs to dismember and kill them. This gets easier once you have some additional stasis upgrades. Kill 50 enemies while they are in stasis and you get the trophy.
Blast Corps – Bronze
-Kill 30 enemies with explosion damage.
Craft the Survey Charge as either the upper tool or lower tool on a heavy frame. The survey charge fires explosive rounds in various forms depending on the other mods that you add. Use it to kill 30 enemies to get your trophy.
Shootbang – Bronze
-Kill 30 Soldiers with head shots.
You will likely get this naturally before you finish the game if you have played shooters before. If not, use stasis on the human enemies and aim for the head. You’ll have the trophy after popping 30 skulls.
Empty Chamber – Bronze
-Kill 30 enemies using melee strikes or a melee Weapon Part.
This will likely come very naturally through the game. Just use melee strikes to kill enemies. You can stasis them and then just mash R1 without the L1 button held down to hit them repeatedly until they die. 30 kills and you’ll get the ding.
Dropping Acid – Bronze
-Dissolve 50 enemies with acid.
On attachment two of your weapon, add the mod called Acid Bath. This will coat your projectiles in acid. Kill 50 enemies with the acid weapon to get the trophy.
Electric Lawnmower – Bronze
-Kill 30 enemies using an electrified Ripper blade.
To craft an electrified Ripper blade, use the Rip Core on a compact frame and add the Electric Charge add-on on attachment two. You can buff the remaining slots with anything else, but make sure that the ripper tip is the default tip to have the suspended blade. Simply use the modified Ripper to kill 30 enemies and get your trophy.
Overpowered Healing – Bronze
-Use quick heal to heal yourself 20 times.
To use quick heal, press circle when your health isn’t full. You will automatically use a medpack from your inventory and heal yourself. Do this 20 times throughout the game and the trophy is added to your list.

*Story related. You will receive this in chapter 17 when you reach the alien machine.
Shoot for the Moon – Gold
-Defeat the Moon.
*Story Related. You will receive this at the end of chapter 19 when you defeat the Necromorph Moon.
Under a Buck – Bronze
-Shoot the deer head trophy in the Admiral’s Quarters.
You can find the deer head on the wall in Chapter 4 as you are heading for the Admiral’s quarters. After you go up the elevator to the Admiral’s quarters it will be on the wall right in front of you. Simply shoot the deer head trophy with any gun and the trophy will be yours.
Space Ace – Bronze
-Shoot at least 70 targets during the ride to Tau Volantis.
At the end of chapter 7 you will be on a shuttle hurtling towards Tau Volantis. Red squares will show up around objects that you can shoot and you need to target these and press R1 to fire. By my count you pretty much need to shoot all of the targets to reach 70 by the time you reach Tau Volantis. There is very little room for error. If you don’t get it by the time the ship crashes (the trophy will pop right after you are shooting ice chunks while flying over the planet), quit the game and then ‘select continue from last save’ to start the flight over and try again without needing to go through chapter 7 from the beginning. This can be a tough one, but it is doable after a few tries.
Hungry – Bronze
-Reach the pump room of the Waystation without alerting any Feeders.
This is a lot easier than it sounds. The Waystation is located in chapter 8 . This is the place where you are first introduced to the Feeders, the emaciated skeletal type enemies that come at you in hordes if you get noticed. Feeders are blind and cannot see you. They are sensitive to bright light and proximity to you. Do not aim your weapon at the Feeders as the light will alert them to your presence and stay as far from them as possible. Move along the far walls of each room to avoid the Feeders and grab the trophy. This may take some trial and error, but I managed to get it on my first time trying for it, so it’s not too hard. The trophy will pop immediately upon reaching the pump room.
Drill Sergeant – Bronze
-Complete the Drill Room without taking any damage.
Do this one on Casual difficulty as it’s pretty tough to complete. The Drill Sequence happens in chapter 10. As the drill will kill you instantly if it touches you, this refers to damage taken from Necromorphs while trapped on the drill platform. The drill will go through three phases in which you will need to slow it down with stasis and shoot a yellow fuse in the middle of it. During this time, Necromorphs will be pouring onto the drill platform to attack you. Use stasis to slow them down and preferably a large area of effect weapon like the force gun to keep them back. They do not come indefinitely so you can kill them until no more show up and then stasis the drill. If you do get hit by an enemy or killed by the drill, quit to the main menu and then continue from last save. Restarting from your last checkpoint will not work as it does not count the entire sequence completed without taking damage. Good luck on going for this one. It popped for me around the time Isaac said “This has been a wonderful trip so far”. If you don’t have it by then, quit and restart.
Weedkiller – Silver
-Kill 5 Cysts in the Biology Building with a single poison gas cloud.
You will reach the Biology Building in chapter 14. When you reach the hallway with the cysts on the floor (after getting the keycard from Ellie), use stasis to slow them down and run past them. Make sure that you turn around after each one and kinesis their explosive pods that they shoot so they don’t kill themselves. You need them all alive for the trophy. If one of the cysts dies, you can select restart checkpoint. Watch out for the last one that is around the corner. After you pass them, proceed to turn on the pump and activate the gas. The trophy will be yours shortly after.
Aliens – Bronze
-Collect all Alien Artifacts.
See The Professor. You will get this trophy as you are going for that one.
Close Encounter – Bronze
-Kill 10 alien Necromorphs.
You will first encounter alien Necromorphs in chapter 16. They are bigger and a little bit tougher to kill, but the same rules apply: Dismember. You should easily have this by the time you reach the end of the game as you come across more than 10 alien Necromorphs in the remaining chapters.
