We’re only six days away from the launch of God of War: Ascension (expect a review and trophy guide from us soon), which sees a younger, less angry Kratos in the single player and, for the first time in the franchise, an online multiplayer mode.
In an interview with Canada.com, John Palamarchuk, Lead Environment Artist at Sony Santa Monica, talked about the multiplayer a little, mentioning that “the closest thing we have to compare it to would be Powerstone on the Dreamcast” and that they wanted to “give fans of God of War something that they could continue playing.”
One way to keep multiplayer invigorated post-launch is through downloadable map packs, something that John said God of War: Ascension wouldn’t charge you for:
We’re going to release maps packs and additional maps for free so players don’t end up in a situation where they have a map pack and their friend doesn’t and then they can’t play together. Everyone is going to have the same maps.
He also noted that there would be a “new game plus mode that changes things when you play through a second time,” but he didn’t go into any further detail, so that could just be the ability to wear different outfits on a replay.
Are you glad that all future maps for God of War: Ascension will be free? Let us know in the comments below.
