With so many different worlds shown to us in video games, we thought it would be fun to ask the staff: Which video game world would you want to live in?

I’ve typed out a reply to this question at least three times now and I still can’t give a perfect answer. Truth is, I play video games to be transported to a different world and escape the harsh reality of the real world. The thing I connect with the most in a game is the world. So many worlds have intrigued me so much, but I’ve always been drawn to the worlds in RPGs. Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim come to mind. But then there’s also games like Super Metroid that I’d love to explore.
In the end, I decided on the world of Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda. It’s fairly safe despite how much evil is there, considering a little boy with elf ears can wield the Master Sword and save the day. There’s plenty of people to talk to, much to explore, and there’s even a flourishing rupee economy and delicious food. As much as I love Mortal Kombat, a world where I fight just to be decapitated and leave my spine dangling just doesn’t sound like a world I want to live in.

I don’t know that I would desire to live in any game world. Game worlds are my escape from reality, and if I live there, they become my reality and I would only desire to escape that. That’s right. I went all philosophical on this one.

If I had a choice of world’s to live in, I’d have to go with Lord of the Rings Online. Who wouldn’t want to live in Middle-earth? Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, Dragons and Ian McKellen.

Since I just beat Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and spent dozens of hours being a pirate, I’d probably have to say that world (not the Abstergo part though). Just going by the rules laid out in the game, it seems like a very easy task to steal my own ship, get a crew, take control of forts, and most importantly, destroy other ships with only a low-level Hunter coming after me as punishment.
The lack of medicine and overall poor hygiene shown in the game does make me second-guess this choice… Oh well, it’s the price of being a pirate!
Joseph Peterson – A Living Fantasy
Honestly there are so many of them to choose from, but to think about a game that is memorable for environment alone is quite difficult. The most memorable environment for me would have to be Final Fantasy VIII. The amount of time that I spent playing this game was ridiculous. It still tops my list of favorite games of all time. The map had a little bit of everything for you to explore, including huge Gardens for you to explore, each having a different look and theme. You must constantly be on your guard when exploring the open world though, enemies await to attack you at any given moment.

This is a very tough question. Personally, for me, it would probably be in a world where my physical limitations were completely removed and I could excel at a sport I truly enjoy. Living in the world of The Show would have to be my choice.

This is tough. My favorite games tend to involves crapsack worlds so I’d be trading down. Maybe Mass Effect? The technology level is much higher, and while the colonization of worlds is dangerous the opportunities of doing so are intriguing. It’s not every day a person is able to set foot on relatively new ground. Of course, with my luck the world chosen to be colonized would be Fisticulus, the planet of not-so-gentle probing.
