PS4 Firmware Update 1.70 to add SHAREfactory, Game Pre-Loading

Still saying that it “will be available soon,” PlayStation has given out more details regarding PS4 firmware update 1.70, including exactly what SHAREfactory is.

The new rich video editor app for PS4, SHAREfactory allows you to easily edit and customize your gameplay videos, which this new trailer shows off:

After completing your videos, it will be easy to share them to Facebook, or you can export them to an external USB storage device and upload the clips elsewhere.

Firmware update 1.70 will also feature the ability to change the recording time of your gameplay to shorter increments, the ability to change who you share your clips with on the SHARE screen, and the removal of default saves for screenshots and video clips. As well, 1.70 allows you to turn off HDCP, giving you the ability to capture video directly from your HDMI output.

First leaked by Sucker Punch last month, firmware update 1.70 brings PS4 game pre-loading, allowing you to pre-download games you’ve pre-ordered before they officially launch:

The 1.70 update adds features to build on this idea [of Play as You Download] and makes it faster to play the games you pre-order with an auto pre-download capability, which allows you to pre-download your select pre-ordered game up to several days prior to release. If you have the auto-download feature enabled, it will automatically pre-download your pre-ordered game so you can play as soon as the game is unlocked on release day.

Scott McCarthy, Director of Product Planning & Software Innovation at SCEA, then added that “we’ve got a lot more coming in PS4 system software update v1.70 and beyond. The PS4 experience will constantly evolve, and new innovative ideas can come from anywhere to ensure the platform continues to deliver the best in gaming and entertainment every time you turn it on.”
