Thanks to the June 2014 issue of Game Informer (via GameSpot), many new details surrounding Sledgehammer’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare have been revealed.
Since he’s starred in most big games recently, it shouldn’t be too surprising to hear that Troy Baker will play the main character, Private Mitchell. Speaking only during cutscenes (and never during gameplay), Private Mitchell is the sole protagonist of Advance Warfare. At the beginning of the game, Mitchell is a Marine working with Will Irons, the son of Kevin Spacey’s Jonathan Irons. After their tour is done, Mitchell agrees to work for Jonathan Irons and gets the EXO suit.
While we know Sledgehammer is developing the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions of Advanced Warfare, the PS3/360 developer still has yet to be revealed, though the safest bet is High Moon Studios since they aren’t handling this year’s new Transformers game. If you were curious, there’s no info on a possible Wii U version.
Here’s some more details about the game:
- Advanced Warfare runs on a new, unspecified game engine.
- Sledgehammer Games Co-founder Michael Condrey describes the event at the beginning of the game as “like a global 9/11,” with multiple continents under attack by a terrorist organization called KVA.
- Multiplayer hasn’t been detailed yet, but Condrey says, “You can probably imagine the possibilities of a lot of the stuff you saw in single-player and how it would apply online.”
- Kevin Space was “very excited” to work on this game when originally approached.
- Points earned during the missions can be used to upgrade your EXO suit. The suit will allow you to climb walls with magnetic gloves, boost-dodge towards cover, perform super-jumps, hover in mid-air, and use optic camouflage.
- “Variable grenades” can be switched from concussion to threat detection (allows you to see enemy locations) as they cook.
- A rideable vehicle called a Pitbull is based off the real world Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP).
- There will be guns that don’t use traditional ammo and are energy-based instead.
- An undetailed co-op mode will be included.
- Metal Gear Solid composer Harry Gregson-Williams is working on the soundtrack, with Audio Director Don Veca saying, “I think Advanced Warfare is going to be the best-sounding and certainly the best-mixed game ever.”
