According to a Deadline report, Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy is in talks with Warner Bros. to develop a film based on the Mojang game, Minecraft. Warner Bros. acquired the rights to make a film based on the hit game back in February.
The film is being produced by Roy Lee, who also produced The LEGO movie. According to Deadline:
Like that film, Minecraft provides a brand name and a blank canvas on which to launch a multiple audience quadrant film franchise.
This statement isn’t surprising to read considering Minecraft’s global success and Microsoft’s recent purchase of Mojang for $2.5 billion. However, I wonder what kind of a film they could potentially make given the game’s sandbox nature.
