Expected to launch soon after the PlayStation 4 version in July (with cross-buy), the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions of Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty could now be months away from launch, the developer said in a recent status update for the game.
Pointing out how fitting the expansive worlds of New ‘n’ Tasty onto the PS3 and PS Vita “has proved to be something of a challenge,” they continued:
The relatively limited RAM available to us has meant we’re having to break down some of the huge scrolling areas seen in the PC and PS4 versions whilst ensuring we retain the same great gameplay.
In addition, many of the visual effects, lighting and animation are not currently at the fidelity level we’d be happy with, so there’s still some work to do in this area.
Aiming to have the PS3 version at 720p and PS Vita version at native resolution, the devs admitted, “This isn’t without some degree of difficulty.”
All in all, they’re doing everything they can to get New ‘n’ Tasty on the PlayStation Store “as soon as possible,” but as they are a small studio, “it’s impossible for us to dedicate the sort of team sizes that larger titles can afford, and so we’re having to work away at the PS3 and PS Vita versions delicately and methodically. We’ll have more news on the progress here in the coming weeks and months.”
New ‘n’ Tasty is also planned for release on PC, Xbox One, and Wii U.
Additionally, Munch’s Oddysee HD for PlayStation Vitais in the final stages of QA at Sony, meaning a release could follow shortly.
