Starbreeze AB announced today that it has sold Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons for a cool $500,000 in cash to 505 Games, the publishers of such titles as Wild Arms and Naughty Bear.
According to Starbreeze, Brothers sold over 800,000 copies worldwide, and the company felt that it was best to sell it. CEO Bo Andersson Klint explained that he believes that the title can flourish under 505 Games.
The sale represents our final transition to the digital strategy. With Brothers we’ve created a strong and critically acclaimed IP, which we now feel can be best nurtured under a new owner. Going forward, we will continue development focused on expansive design, a concept proven with the PAYDAY-franchise. Brothers will continue to generate awe and admiration for the great storytelling standard Josef Fares set under 505 Games watchful eye.
At the same title, 505 Games President explained that he believes Brothers was “one of the most affecting games of the last generation,” and noted that the acquisition is part of 505 Games’ commitment to obtain its own IP.
