Following multiple delays, Bethesda announced today that The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited is releasing on June 9, 2015 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in North America and Europe.
The biggest change with Tamriel Unlimited is the removal of a monthly subscription fee. “Players will make a one-time purchase of the game,” Bethesda says, “and can then enjoy hundreds of hours of content without the requirement of a monthly game subscription fee when The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited becomes available on console in June and beginning March 17 for PC/Mac players.” However, a PlayStation Plus membership is required to play.
With the leap to PS4, The Elder Scrolls Online is designed for the DualShock 4 and “feels closer to experiences you’ve had with past Elder Scrolls games on consoles.” As well, all the updates and content additions from the PC/Mac version are packaged in, including the new Justice and Champion systems:
The Champion System is a totally new progression system for max-level characters, while the Justice System, which allows you to steal, murder, and be brought to justice if you’re caught!
While playing online is free, you can decide to pay an optional monthly fee of $14.99, granting you access to ESO Plus. With this, you’ll receive free access to all of the game’s DLC game packs; bonuses to XP, gold, and crafting; and a monthly allotment of Crowns to purchase items from the Crown Store, which is a merchant store allowing you to buy items.
For everyone, patches will be issued to The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, with optional DLC available as well.
Game Director Matt Firor talked about the big change:
Our fans are our biggest inspiration, and we’ve listened to their feedback on the entertainment experience they want. We know that Elder Scrolls fans want choice when it comes to how they play and how they pay, and that is what they will get. We have made numerous changes to the game over the past year, and are confident this is a game that Elder Scrolls fans will love to play. Players can explore Tamriel with friends, battle creatures, craft, fish, steal, or siege. The choice is theirs. The game offers hundreds of hours of gameplay with unlimited adventures with one single game purchase. We can’t wait for everyone, whether they’ve played before or will be experiencing it for the first time, to begin adventuring in The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited.
