January 2015 Must Plays
January 2015 Must-Play Gallery
As 2015 is beginning, we're here to guide you in the must-play games of the year. January started off with a lot of re-releases of older games. Here are the must-play titles from January.
Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition
Here's a re-release of quite an old game, but it gives the Vita a chance to stretch its legs. Not to mention it was a PlayStation Plus free game in January. There's really no excuse not to play this if you're a Vita owner and a fan of old school first person shooters. Read our review here.
"But if you remember playing the shareware game in its heyday, or want to experience a first-person shooter that really tests your reflexes, then pick this re-release up."
Saints Row IV Re-Elected and Gat Out of Hell
Maybe not valuable as individual games, we recommend grabbing this combo of new and old. Re-Elected is a solid re-release, but fails to really hit the 'remaster' note well. Gat Out of Hell is a fun experience, but perhaps a better value when included as part of the pack with Saints Row IV . Read the Re-Elected review here. Read the Gat Out of Hell review here.
Grim Fandango Remastered
Tim Schafer's classic adventure game from his LucasArts days is back. While some may argue that the quality of the remaster is not that impressive , you can't deny the amount of work that went in to bring the pieces of this game back together. It's a piece of gaming history that holds up well today. Read the full review here.
"Grim Fandango Remastered has been put together with care as a passion project from Tim Schafer, and is sure to delight both players new to the game and long time players of Grim Fandango and the LucasArts graphic puzzle adventure genre."
Resident Evil HD Remaster
Yup. Another re-release of a game. In fact, this is a remaster of an HD remake. Resident Evil is a classic series and we finally get to relive the original zombie horror game that started it all. Read our full review here.
"...with multiple endings, the best visuals possible, and that iconic mansion setting, you’re always going to want to come back for more. Whether you want to relive the nightmares of your youth or experience a classic for the first time..."
The January 2015 Game of the Month is...
Ok, so every game on this list has been a game that released before. None of them have been new releases. Which is why our winner for the Game of the Month is...
Dying Light
Finally, a game that isn't a re-release. Dying Light is a terrifying and fun zombie horror adventure game that is what we've been wanting in a first-person undead title. The parkour element adds a whole new dimension, and the co-operative play is full featured and tense. For all of these reasons and more, Techland's zombie opus takes our Game of the Month award. "...incredibly exhilarating and entertaining. The ability to play with friends, but still improve my character without having to worry about losing out on any progress I have earned keeps me coming back for more and more."
