Dungeon Defenders 2 is a PS4 Console Exclusive Because a Lot of the Policies for F2P “Made It a Better Fit”

Back during the weekend of The Game Awards and PlayStation Experience, Trendy Entertainment announced that Dungeon Defenders 2 would be a PlayStation 4 console exclusive when it eventually launches, after partnering with Sony.

Getting a little more information about this decision, Gaming Bolt sat down with Marketing Director Philip Asher, where he explained why the game isn’t coming to Xbox One:

We really love the folks at PlayStation and right now a lot of policies on the PS4 made it a better fit for Dungeon Defenders 2, since it will be a free-to-play title.

In Early Access right now on Steam, Asher says they have “no plans” to add DLC to Dungeon Defenders 2 when it goes free-to-play. Using the same micro-transaction system on PS4 and PC, he adds that their “business model will be based around cosmetic in-game purchases. We will never sell gameplay advantage in Dungeon Defenders 2.”

He elaborated:

Basically, NO selling gameplay advantage. We intend to sell hero costumes, defense skins, and other cosmetics/service that do not effect gameplay.

Unconfirmed at the moment, Asher says PS4 and PC cross-platform play is something “we would definitely love to do in the future.”

Asher was unable to answer the questions of whether the PS4 version will launch at the same time as PC, or if it would be 1080p/60fps on PS4, just saying it’s “currently highly in development.”
