With tablets getting more and more powerful with every iteration, could it possibly replace consoles as the primary gaming platform in the future?
Apparently, EA thinks this way, at least from a technical perspective.
Speaking at the 2015 Technology, Internet & Media Conference, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said that he thinks tablets will be a bigger part of the company’s business, and that it could rival console specs in a few years’ time.
What gets us the most excited is the power, the computing power, of mobile devices and the speed at which that’s growing…What that might mean is that a tablet, three or four years from now, has more power than what a typical console has. And that will open up a whole new set of people to console-style games that are much more immersive, much deeper, much more character-driven than simply a static mobile game that you might play for a small burst of time while you’re waiting for the bus.

Much more portable than it is today. And that for us is a huge opportunity.
While tablets could one day be on par with consoles graphically, I don’t think I’d ever be at ease playing core games with just touch controls. Who knows, though? Maybe virtual reality and holograms are the keys to tablet gaming’s success?
